A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Summary:

sg3_utils could be made to run programs as an administrator if it received specially crafted input.

Software Description:
- sg3-utils: Utilities for devices using the SCSI command set

Details:

Shaomin Chen discovered that sg3_utils did not properly sanitize device
identification data. An attacker could possibly use this issue to
execute arbitrary commands.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
