VULNERABILITY SUMMARY
A potential security vulnerability has been identified with HP Storage Essentials Software. The vulnerability could be exploited remotely to gain unauthorized access to data.

Note: This security vulnerability may also exist on other management server software based on HP Storage Essentials available from other software providers. Please contact the appropriate support provider for information.

RESOLUTION
Until updates are available the following manual procedure will resolve the vulnerability.

1. On the HP Storage Essentials management server, edit the jboss-service.xml file in the following directory:

For Windows platform - INSTALLATION_DIRECTORYJBossandJettyserverappiqdeploymanagementconsole-mgr.sarMETA-INF
For other platforms - INSTALLATION_DIRECTORY/JBossandJetty/server/appiq/deploy/management/console-mgr.sar/META-INF

where the HP Storage Essentials management server software is installed in the INSTALLATION_DIRECTORY.

2. Locate the following block of code:

3. Place comments around the block of code. This will disable the MBean.

Note: Disabling the MBean does not change the normal functionality of the management server.

4. Save the jboss-service.xml file

5. Restart the management server service or reboot the management server.

Note: The vulnerability will be resolved in HP Storage Essentials Software 5.1.0 SP5 and 6.0.0 SP1. This Security Bulletin will be revised when those software updates are available.
