Ubuntu Security Notice USN-2426-1
November 27, 2014
flac vulnerabilities
==========================================================================
A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:
- Ubuntu 14.10
- Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Summary:
FLAC could be made to crash or run programs as your login if it opened a
specially crafted file.
Software Description:
- flac: Free Lossless Audio Codec
Details:
Michele Spagnuolo discovered that FLAC incorrectly handled certain
malformed audio files. An attacker could use this issue to cause FLAC to
crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary
code.
Update instructions:
The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:
Ubuntu 14.10:
libflac++6 1.3.0-2ubuntu0.14.10.1
libflac8 1.3.0-2ubuntu0.14.10.1
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:
libflac++6 1.3.0-2ubuntu0.14.04.1
libflac8 1.3.0-2ubuntu0.14.04.1
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS:
libflac++6 1.2.1-6ubuntu0.1
libflac8 1.2.1-6ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS:
libflac++6 1.2.1-2ubuntu0.1
libflac8 1.2.1-2ubuntu0.1
In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
