Installation
This threat can create files on your PC, including:
- %APPDATA%\key.dat
- %APPDATA%\wcpfgmt.exe
It modifies the registry so that it runs each time you start your PC. For example:
In subkey: HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run
Sets value: "msconfig"
With data: "%APPDATA%\wcpfgmt.exe"
The malware uses code injection to make it harder to detect and remove. It can inject code into running processes.
As of April 2015, we have observed an increase in Tescrypt activity as it gets dropped by a few exploit kits such as Angler, Nuclear, Fiesta, and Sweet Orange.
