An IRC-worm is a standalone program that uses Internet Relay Chat (IRC) networks to spread itself.

The most common ways for an IRC-worm to propagate is by either: establishing connection to an IRC server and directly distributing infected worm copies; or indirectly, by dropping a script to an IRC client directory, which automatically causes the IRC client to send a copy of the worm's executable file to every other user whenever the infected client connects to an IRC server and joins any channel.
