Synopsis
========
A stack-based buffer overflow in Git might allow a local attacker to
gain escalated privileges.

Background
==========
Git is a free and open source distributed version control system
designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with
speed and efficiency.

Affected packages
=================
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 dev-vcs/git < 1.7.2.2 >= 1.7.2.2

Description
===========
Git contains a stack-based buffer overflow in the is_git_directory
function in setup.c.

Impact
======
A local attacker could gain escalated privileges via a specially
crafted git repository.

Workaround
==========
There is no known workaround at this time.

Resolution
==========
All Git users should upgrade to the latest version:

# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=dev-vcs/git-1.7.2.2"

NOTE: This is a legacy GLSA. Updates for all affected architectures are
available since September 11, 2010. It is likely that your system is
already no longer affected by this issue.
