The update for jq released as DSA-6416-1 introduced a regression in the
loading of modules. The fix for CVE-2026-44777 registered each library
before its own dependencies, so a module reached only through another
module (a transitive import or include) was discarded as unreferenced
and jq aborted with an assertion failure at compile time.
For the stable distribution (trixie), this problem has been fixed in
version 1.7.1-6+deb13u4.
We recommend that you upgrade your jq packages.
